The long-established German optics company ZEISS and German Molecular Machines & Industries (MMI) jointly introduce a new generation of laser microdissection based on CellCut.

Following the discontinuation of ZEISS’s PALM laser microdissection / laser capture product line, a gap appeared in that part of the ZEISS portfolio. That gap has since been addressed. ZEISS and German MMI jointly announced a strategic partnership: ZEISS will supply multiple microscope hosts for MMI systems, while MMI will provide its established single-cell laser microdissection system. Global customers purchasing MMI products will therefore have a wider choice of microscope hosts.
The new-generation laser microdissection configuration uses ZEISS’s AXIO Observer optical imaging platform together with MMI’s CellCut laser microdissection system, forming a high-capability laser microdissection workstation with strong imaging performance.
Built-in multimodal whole-slide scanning supports panoramic imaging of multiple sample types under multiple observation modes, with capabilities such as remote target marking and import of third-party recognition data, enabling laser microdissection under multicolour immunofluorescence workflows.
When combined with a spinning-disk confocal and a live-cell culture system, live cells can be cultured and imaged in multiple dimensions on the same platform; target cells can then be isolated and collected for downstream molecular analysis.
The configuration offers high imaging quality with substantial functional and expansion potential. With a spinning-disk confocal and live-cell workstation, multimodal live-cell observation and analysis can be extended further. After target cells are obtained, downstream molecular analyses are facilitated, supporting comparison of multimodal sample results.
